accelerator pedal potentiometer trouble

four days without the rover...driving partners golf....
accelerator pedal potentiometer...didnt see that coming....checked the wiring and seemed ok.
if your rover starts kangarooing up the road, look no further....throttle cable stops at this expensive little Bosch part and is converted to an electrical signal for the ecu.
absolutely no luck with any breaker yard...and i tried pretty hard...so had to fork out £245 plus labour etc
happily, its sitting out in the drive now but this was a crazy situation....do i really have to consider getting something more recent in future?
