Gearbox whining

Post by DRover620 »

My gearbox have started whining in 4th & 5th gear
Could it be bearing related or am I looking at something else?

Thx,
Dule

As my gearbox is fubared I am looking fro a replacement.
So does anyone knows does the gearbox from 25SDI fits my 620SDI?
Beside differnet gear ratios is there anything else that needs to be changed?

Not sure what the original fault is (maybe a bearing like you say?) however a 25 sdi box should fit a 620sdi without a problem.

Gear ratios will be slightly different, but the difference isn't huge.

First thing to check is the oil level. The biggest killer of PG1 gearboxes is lack of oil which usually causes the diff bearings to pack up.

The 25 gearbox will be slightly different to the 600 one in that the gear ratios will be different and you'll need to swap the clutch arm over from the original box (as the 25 is cable clutch I think). A 5 min job so nothing to worry about there.

I'm not sure on the speedo ratio but it may be worth counting the number of teeth on both gearbox senders to make sure that they have the same ratio otherwise the speedo might read high or low.

Otherwise it'll bolt in fine and get you on the road.

Glad it is sorted now. Might be worth checking the speedo against a sat-nav to make sure it isn't too far out.
