Throttle Position Sensor Wiring problems?

Post by E_T_V »

There are an increasing number of throttle position sensor problems being reported.

The throttle position sensor is rather expensive but fear not the problem is almost always the wiring for the sensor rather than the sensor itself.

The symptoms usually show themselves as an unresponsive throttle that sticks at 1250-1300rpm no matter what you do. The symptoms often happen in wet weather. The cause is usually the wiring that runs around the radiator area. It can become frayed inside the protective casing which can fill up with water causing a fault that is difficult to trace.

As the route (red in the picture) will always be exposed to water it may be better to re-route this wiring along the back of the engine bay instead. Here is one way it is possible to do it that has worked on some members cars.

I hope you find this useful
